Monksbelt or munkabälte is one of the oldest of patterned European textiles and is thought to have originated in Malmöhus County in Sweden – now part of Skåne in the very southernmost tip of Sweden.
The bands of monsksbelt pattern are woven on a twill ground cloth so they are as beautifully drapey as my other throws. These are super slow weaves as they require two shuttles to weave, one for the ground cloth and one for the pattern, which are alternated at every new row. The resulting bands of monksbelt pattern are super warm as they are double the thickness.
Like all my throws they are woven in a beautiful heathered yarn giving a depth of shaded colour that is very natural and very appealing to the eye. The yarns are sourced from UK spinning mills which also dye the wool.
Please note: These throws are only woven to order. I currently have one small size throw which is available for purchase online. This is suitable for a single or double bed but too small for a king size. Larger sizes can also be woven by order. Custom orders can also be placed if you would like a different colourway. There is a small additional charge made when I work with you on your colour choice. Please use the contact form on my contact page to discuss your requirements or to place an order for a different size throw.
Prices for the natural white, indigo, and silver grey throws are as follows:
Small (single or double bed size): £300
King size: £350
Super king size: £400
